SUMMER COOLING
During the summer months, cooling your home uses more energy and drains more energy dollars than any other system in your home. Typically, 45% of your utility bill each month goes for cooling your home.

Try these no-cost and low-cost tips to keep your house cool when it's hot outside.
  • Close your windows and outside doors to keep in cool air.
  • Close curtains and blinds during the day to prevent solar gain.
  • Shade your home and significantly reduce cooling costs by planting trees, vines and shrubs, or installing awnings or patio covers.
  • Use ceiling fans to circulate the cool air produced by your air conditioning unit.
  • Clean or replace air conditioner filters every month.
  • Have your air conditioner serviced annually to make sure it's running properly.
  • Replace your outdated air conditioner with an ENERGY STAR® qualified unit and use up to 40 per cent less energy.
  • Electronics like computers and televisions generate heat. Turn them off when not in use.
  • Standard light bulbs use up to 90 per cent of their energy producing heat.   Switch  to energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs that generate little or no heat.
