Gas Furnaces with
Cracked Heat Exchangers |
 |
If a crack develops in the heat exchanger of your
natural gas or propane gas furnace, there is a
potential for carbon monoxide gas to leak over to
the supply side and be circulated throughout your
home. Carbon monoxide gas is a silent killer - it is
odorless and invisible. |

|
Carbon Monoxide is Lethal! |
 |
If your home is equipped with a gas furnace more
than ten years old, it needs to be checked for
cracks and rust holes in the heat exchanger.
These fine holes and cracks may not be detectable by
the naked eye or they may be hidden from view - it
is necessary to use a flexible camera to inspect the
interior surface or see the backside of the heat
exchanger. |
The technician should be properly trained and
licensed. He should also be equipped with a
hand-held carbon monoxide gas detector.
Light-headedness, nausea, and flu-like symptoms are all
signs of carbon monoxide gas leaking into your home.
In extreme cases or in tight, well-insulated homes -
carbon monoxide poisoning can be lethal! |
