Over the years, I've been
called upon countless times to install heating and air
conditioning units purchased online. These
purchases are normally made through online auction sites
and at a good price but they're rarely, if ever,
a good deal.
Most of these units turn
out to be out-dated truck salvage or previously owned
refurbished units. And, even if they're
still-in-the-crate, fresh-in-the-box,
one-hundred-percent brand new, there's another highly

important issue that
should be taken into
consideration before purchasing heating and air
conditioning equipment over the Internet. For the
most part, manufacturers do
not warranty
units sold online.

of America's foremost manufacturers of heating and air
conditioning equipment. A perfectly good
ten-year warranty could be worthless!
Others Agree -
"No Deal!"
More and more heating and air conditioning
manufacturers are voicing their opinions concerning
online sales:

think you get the point - "good prices are not
necessarily good deals!"
Some may ask - "Why are
these mean old manufacturers doing this?"
Heating and air conditioning is a trade. It
requires skill to properly install a heating and air
conditioning unit. There is low voltage, high
voltage and flowing liquid under pressure - there
are dozens if not hundreds of things that could go
horribly wrong if HVAC units are not installed
properly such as property damage, unit damage,
bodily injury, local building code violations not to
mention the fact the unit must be sized correctly
and charged to the proper pressure. There's
also the issue of ductwork design (air supply and
return), thermostats and more to insure these units
do the job they're supposed to do: heat and cool
efficiently and safely. Installing
a heating and air conditioning system is far more
complicated than hooking up a DVD player, then
switching wires around until you get a picture. |
